The Village of Daajing Giids has engaged BioMaxx Environmental Inc. to conduct a sanitary sewer vapour testing study on Sep 17 and Sep 18, 2026. This notice is to inform residents and business owners of the upcoming work and what to expect.

What is Vapour Testing?

Vapour testing is a safe and proven method used to identify leaks, cross-connections, and defects in sanitary sewer infrastructure. Technicians will travel through the community pumping a special non-toxic,

non-damaging vapour throughout the sewer system to locate any abnormalities using aerial drone technology.

The vapour is completely harmless and safe for people, pets, and the environment. Vapour should not enter any homes or buildings unless there is a cross-connection or defect. If vapour does enter a building, it will dissipate once a window or door is opened.

What to Expect

  • Technicians will be working on public roads and accessing manholes throughout the community.

  • Please run water in all sinks, drains, and bathtubs on the morning of Sep 17 and Sep 18 to ensure P-traps are filled and sealed before testing begins.

  • You may see vapour emerging from manholes, roof vents, or other openings — this is normal and expected.

  • Technicians will be clearly identifiable in BioMaxx Environmental uniforms and safety vests.

If vapour enters your home:

1. Do not be alarmed - it is non-toxic and harmless.
2. Open a window or door - vapour will clear quickly.
3. Contact BioMaxx immediately if vapour persists. 604-367-3207

No action needed if vapour does NOT enter:
No action is required. The absence of vapour means your home has no cross-connections with the sanitary sewer. This is the expected outcome for most residences.

utilities

The Village of Daajing Giids provides water and sewer services to most residents within the Water Service area and Sewer Service Area. Not all properties within municipal boundaries are within the Water and/or Sewer Service Areas.

Utility payments are quarterly payments that homeowners, businesses, or any lot or structure that is connected to the water and/or sewer system pay to use this infrastructure.

Garbage collection fees are also included on utility bills, however this service is provided by North Coast Regional District and the municipality forwards these fees directly to them.

The Village of Daajing Giids has a flat-rate billing system for water and sewer as is typical of small communities with limited resources and a small user base.

All properties within the Water and/or Sewer Service area also pay frontage tax, for the ability to connect to these services, whether or not the property makes use of the service.

Garbage

Garbage and recycling are services provided by North Coast Regional District. Find out more here. NCRD Waste Management

Utility Payments

Utility payments are billed quarterly and are due on:

  • March 15th
  • June 15th
  • September 15th
  • December 15th

Failure to pay a bill by the due date will result in a 3% late penalty being applied to your next bill.

Any unpaid utility balances by December 31st of will be transferred to property tax accounts as arrears. Arrears are unpaid taxes from the prior year and subject to daily accumulating interest until paid. More property tax information.
