2026 General Election

General local elections in B.C. are held every four years on the third Saturday in October. The next general local election will be held on October 17, 2026.

You are allowed to vote by mail if you are qualified and are registered as:
• a resident elector (i.e., you live in Daajing Giids), OR
• a non-resident property elector (i.e., you live elsewhere in BC but own property in Daajing Giids)

Requirements to Vote:

To vote in the election, you must:

  • Be 18 years of age or older on general voting day
  • Be a Canadian citizen
  • Have lived in B.C. for at least 6-months immediately before election day
  • Not be disqualified by law from voting

Are you Registered to Vote?
You may already be registered to vote in the local election if you usually vote in Provincial and/or Federal elections. If you do not appear on the Village of Daajing Giids Provincial voters list, an application form will be included in your mail ballot package.
Voters can register or update their information through the online voter registration system at www.elections.bc.ca/ovr. Online voter registration is generally halted a few months prior to the election date. Following the date prescribed by Elections BC, registration may be completed on voting day.
Non-resident Property Electors
When a person lives in one jurisdiction and owns property in one or more other jurisdictions, they may vote once in each of the other jurisdictions where they own property - as long as they meet the voter eligibility requirements.

  • A non-resident property elector must:
  • Be 18 years of age or older when they register to vote, or 18 years or older on general voting day
  • Be a Canadian citizen Have been a resident of B. C. for at least six months immediately before they register to vote
  • Be the registered owner of real property in the jurisdiction where they intend to vote for at least 30 days immediately before they register to vote
  • Not be disqualified under the Local Government Act, or any other enactment from voting in local elections or be otherwise disqualified by law.

Only one person is eligible to vote as the non-resident property elector for that property when a person owns a property with one or more other individuals. The owner entitled to vote must be designated, in writing, by the majority of the property owners. A person cannot vote on behalf of a corporation, or as a non-resident property elector, based on a property owned wholly or in part by a corporation.

Information for Candidates

Nominations will be received by the Chief Elections Officer or a designated person from 9:00am Tuesday September 1st to 4:00pm Friday September 11th. Nomination packages received outside of these dates cannot be accepted.

*Declaration: Page 3 of C2 - MUST be signed in front of the Chief Elections Officer (or delegate) or a Commissioner for taking affidavits for British Columbia.

Requirements to run for office:

  • Be 18 years of age or older on general voting day
  • Be a Canadian citizen
  • Have lived in BC for at least 6 months immediately before election day or the day nomination papers are filed
  • Not be disqualified by law from being nominated, elected, or holding office.
  • To run for office in a municipal election, you must be nominated by at least 2 eligible electors
