Welcome to the Daajing Giids Municipal Cemetery The Daajing Giids Municipal Cemetery serves as the primary burial site for much of Haida Gwaii, including the communities of Daajing Giids, Sandspit, Tlell, and Port Clements. With only two other cemeteries located in the northern region of the islands and one fully occupied cemetery in Tlell, the availability of burial plots across Haida Gwaii is limited. In response to growing demand and future community needs, the Village of Daajing Giids is actively exploring options to expand the Municipal Cemetery to ensure continued access to this important community service.

The Daajing Giids Municipal Cemetery was formally adopted by the Village following its incorporation in 2006. Some portions of the cemetery remain undocumented, as earlier graves were unmarked or have deteriorated over time, leaving limited records for the Municipality to reference. As we look to expand burial space, we are carefully navigating the sensitive environmental and cultural considerations of the area, including the potential presence of mutton. The Village is committed to following appropriate policy and planning processes to ensure that sufficient burial plots are available for future generations, while honoring the integrity of the land.

Before the Village of Daajing Giids became incorporated, the Royal Canadian Legion took care and responsibility for the Cemetery. Right before arriving at the Cemetery, you make your way through the Haydn Turner Municipal Campground.
